EDUCATIONAL EVENT: April 22, 2021,

So You’re Looking for an Internship

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.

In the publishing industry and in many other fields, internships often serve as a gateway to one’s career--and, at the very least, are a great learning experience. But landing an internship isn’t always easy, especially with an increasingly competitive job market and other barriers to entry. So if you’re looking for an internship, where can you start? What should you know?

Join Rochon Perry, Founder and Queen Bee of Cedar Grove Publishing,a Black woman-owned company, and Michelle Phan, former intern and now full-time publicist at North Atlantic Books, as they offer their tips, resources, and best practices on how to get an internship and how to make the most of your internship experience. Hear from both the hiring perspective and the intern perspective. The webinar will be split into two parts, and there will be an opportunity for Q&A at the end.

In the first half, they will discuss:

  • How to approach the job search--what to look out for and where

  • What employers are looking for in applicants

  • Resume/cover letter + interview tips

  • The importance of networking

  • The importance of stretching beyond your comfort zone

  • Effective and professional communication

In the second half, they will cover:

  • What to do once you’ve landed an internship

  • Setting goals and determining how you’ll achieve them

  • How to best use the resources you’re provided

  • What internships can lead to
